  1. I think it was a pillowcase dress...I broke my friends moms sewing machine as a teenage but I can't remember what I was making. So the first thing I made after school was a pillowcase dress, probably. Lol!

  5. I sewed a skirt with my mom. Then she helped me make a matching blouse. That started my love of sewing at age 10.

  8. I sewed a wallet. It accidentally turned out perfect (pattern matching and zipper on the first try), so I got overconfident after that. ;) I was quickly humbled afterward. lol

  12. I can't actually remember; I've been sewing as long as I can remember. I do remember sewing doll clothes on my mom's lap before the age of 5, and barbie clothes by myself at the age of 8, and my own dress, from start to finish, at the age of 12. sarah@forrussia.org

  18. I don't remember what I first sewed by hand, but the summer before I turned 8 my mom taught me to use the sewing machine. I started with a simple fish stuffie out of some horrible red polyester, but I've never stopped!

  24. Geez! I began sewing with my grandma when I was four years old - how am I supposed to remember? I do remember that she would hand me her scraps and I would make my doll a "dress". At least that's what my four year old self thought it was. ;)

  26. My mom taught me when I was five. And she had me make a skirt and a shirt. I still have them to this day. I am pretty sure she helped a lot on the shirt, but the skirt was all me.

  31. The first thing I ever sewed? I don't know. But the first time I really got into sewing was in High School. My theatre teacher assumed that because of my religion I knew how to sew so when I got kicked out of the show for failing classes, she put me on the costume crew. I was the only one on it! I made the stuff work (taught myself pretty quick) and she loved me for it, but admitted she never would have put me there with such expensive fabrics had she known.

  32. The first thing I ever sewed was a quilt when I was 11 years old. It was made of denim and flannel. I still have it too. Then later on in my teenage years I got into sewing my own clothes.

  53. Um.....not sure if I should include the shorts I tried to make when I was 12. I got so mad I just sewed the fabric into a big mess of well, a big mess. My mom was not too pleased. :)

  62. In 4-H when I was nine, I made a quilted vest with balloons on it - burned the inside ironing it, but was honest with the judge and explained what I learned and I won first place!
