Feathers Flights // Sewing Blog: Silk "Staple Dress" Shirt

Silk "Staple Dress" Shirt

I did something very out of character for me. I actually purchased a pattern. Can you believe it? I have had my eyes on The Staple Dress for a looong time, and it finally popped up in Parcel #3 on the Perfect Pattern Parcel. I felt better about spending money since I would get five patterns, and some of the money would go towards charity. It's such a great idea!
I decided to cut up a silk skirt I had made but rarely wear to test out the pattern. I only had enough to make a shirt and even had to do some piecing which you can't see in the pictures.
I really like the fit because it's comfortable, and it breathes so well for hot summer days.
Pattern: The Staple Dress, I really like this pattern and have plans to make more (dresses and tops) in the near future!
Fabric: I cut up a skirt and kept the original lettuce edge hem. I originally received the fabric as a gift at my bridal shower. (Isn't that the best gift ever?)
Time: 2 hours
Cost: $3 for the pattern
I like how this shirt can be easily dressed down or dress up.

  1. I like it with the scarf and belt!

  2. Very cute! I have some coral lace, but only enough to make a shirt. I might have to make one like yours...I love it!

  3. I caved on this parcel too because I've had my eye on this pattern. I bet you'll get a lot more wear out of your fabric now!

  4. This color is great! You look fabulous in it too! Thanks for supporting PPP!

  5. That looks so gorgeous!
I almost fell off my chair, you bought a pattern! :) I have debated on those pattern parcel deals. Usually there are more patterns that I won't use versus patterns I will use.
I can't wait to see it in dress form.

  6. Nice top. Casual look for summer. :) I am curious to know who won the giveaway :)
