Boy's Fall/Winter Collection: KCW Day 3

I didn't get much done yesterday because I sewed a detailed item: a pair of Small Fry skinny jeans. I cut them from old jeans so I reused the front zipper, belt loops, and waistband. It made them come together quicker, but there was still lots of topstitching details I added. I haven't pressed them yet or added elastic to the waist, but I am quite happy with how they came out and pressing only makes it better. I made them extra long for cuffs and hopefully more wearing time. I also took in the sides 1/2" so they'll fit my skinny mini boy.
I got to keep some of the fading from the original pants. It gives these pants a really cool effect.
I also sewed in a adult to fit Henry. This hat was the starting point to my collection. I love the colors, print, and style and kind of based everything else on this.
I didn't sew this plaid coat this week, but I wanted to account it in the collection. I finished it a couple weeks ago for Project Run and Play. I did fix it on Saturday though. I straightened out the hem, took in the sides, and chose different buttons.
I didn't sew this sweatshirt this week either, and this is the first pictures I've taken of it except on Instagram. This is my favorite project I've sewn to date. I love the print, asymmetry, scarf hood, yoke, etc. I altered a pattern from the Sewing for Toddlers book (all the tops I'm making are from this book). I added a yoke with an asymmetrical button placket and made the regular hood into a scarf hood. I still need to get some cute pictures of Henry in it, so you can get the full effect!

  2. Me too! Those jeans are awesome! I always have trouble with zip flys. What a cool idea to use an existing one! They look great!

  6. How did you do the top stitching on the jeans? type of thread? and how did you make it look big with the look of having a little space between each stitch?

    1. Well the stitching you're looking at is probably the stitching from the original pants. To mimic it I use either two threads or jean topstitching thread and put my stitch length to 3.5 or longer.
