I’m so glad this weeks theme for Project Run and Play was “man’s button up shirt.” I have wanted to make Henry a flannel coverall from a button up shirt since I made him the man’s shirt romper. This is the same basic idea, but it’s for winter instead of summer.
I kept the sleeve cuffs, the front button placket, and the front pocket. I drafted my own pattern and it has a yoke and collar like an original man’s button up shirt. The inseam opens with snaps and the leg hem is an elastic casing. I used a flannel shirt I thrifted. (Henry is wearing an outfit underneath to keep him warm and to help fill out the coverall.)
I crocheted the fox hat for him. I’m not a good crocheter and this hat was a steep learning curve for me. I redid the middle area about seven times. I’m so happy I kept up with it though because it turned out so cute. I looked multiple free hat patterns and kind of made it up. I also made up the fox features. I will not be doing another big crochet project like this anytime soon!
If I get lots and lots of people interested in the coverall, I’ll work on the pattern and tutorial. This week just got away from me, so I didn’t get around to it. Or you could use the shirt romper pattern and tutorial and just lengthen the sleeves and legs.
