Feathers Flights // Sewing Blog: White Tie Shirt

White Tie Shirt

(No new camera yet.) I finished the other version of the pattern I used for my chambray shirt. When I made the chambray shirt, I was confused about some of the construction methods. After making this version, all the methods made sense because the pattern was made for this shirt to work.
I used basic white cotton and doubled each piece, so it's not transparent. It's more formal than what I usually wear which is good. It gives me something to dress up in when I need to.
I couldn't decide what buttons to use so I asked on facebook what I should do. (If you like answering questions, follow my facebook page, because I put up questions every once in awhile.) Thanks for all the responses! It really helps me figure out what to do.
I decided to go with the plain classic buttons. I felt like it went better with the shirt. If I would've had vintage fabric, I would've used the vintage buttons.
Now I need to make a cute pencil skirt to wear with it!

  1. I love it, a shirt like this is very versatile to have in your wardrobe since it can be worn in many different ways. Good job!

  2. Wow! I really wish I could sew like you! The blouse is great!!

  3. Cute! I have yet to get brave enough to sew for me rather than for children, you make it look easy!

  4. Thanks for the inspiration! Especially the 3/4 cuffed sleeves. I'm tall so long sleeves are usually short and I end up pushing them to just below my elbow. Then I have to pull them down when I put on a jacket. With the cuff, it will keep them from sliding up my arm when I do. I need some fall tops and I'll use those sleeves on a few.
    Great job!

  5. That is such a fun top you are a wonder!
