Sewing 101 - Basic Sewing Machine Stitches and Their Uses

Every Monday I try to have a infographic about basic sewing to answer one of your questions. Feel free to ask questions in the comments or email me. Also, if you know the answer to someone's question, go ahead and answer it. We're here to help each other learn about sewing!
Do you have a question about how to do one of these specific stitches?

  1. when you talk about the stitch lengths which of these pertains to the settings on the machine? the mm or the stitch per inch?

    1. The mm is the number that shows up on the settings of the sewing machine. Good question!

  3. Does using a zigzag stitch on knits help keep them from stretching and puckering?

    1. Nothing really helps knits from stretching and puckering, but the cross-stich does a lot better than the zigzag.
