Wedding Dress Alteration Before: Adding a Godet

I get to work on another wedding dress. Yay! I really enjoy working on wedding dresses. This is a friend who got married in this dress, but because of certain circumstances that marriage has ended. She has since found a really sweet, great guy and is getting married this summer. To save money she decided to alter this one instead of getting a new one. This is what it looks like right now. I love the long beautiful train!
The part she doesn't like about this dress is the front of the skirt and the neckline. A skirt she loves is this one with it's beautiful draping.
What we decided to to is add a godet to the right side of the dress.A godet is a triangular piece insert that adds flare. You can see examples of godets on the skirt on the left. I'm going to add one big godet the will start under the waist detail so that it will blend in with the dress. It will add flare and soft, beautiful draping, and it will match the beautiful draping in the back of the dress. I will also change the neckline to a v-neck.

  1. Oooh, best of luck! It'll look amazing when it's done!

  2. Wow, you amaze me. I would have never thought of that. And what a great friend to do such a nice thing for her. Can't wait to see the final of how the godet goes in. Good luck!

  3. This is great! You just gave me an idea for altering a dress I recently got for my niece. I think it needs a bit more "give".
