I did this refashion last week before I moved. It was surprisingly easy and fun. This is my friend’s dress for her sister’s wedding. I didn’t have my camera with me so I took this with my phone. It doesn’t do the dress justice. Anyway, the problem with this dress is it has little cap sleeves that end. She needed a little more coverage under her arms.
What I did was undo the hem and cut out some dress fabric. I replaced it with another gray fabric I had in my scraps. I used that fabric to sew in a simple piece under the sleeve.
This is what it looks like finished. I have the sleeve overlap the extra piece.
Here’s the inside. The pieces just end inside.
I forgot to take a picture with her wearing it, but it looked really good! You could hardly tell that the piece was there, and it just blended in. This was such a good idea; I’m pretty sure I’m going to use it many times in the future to make cap sleeves a little more modest.
Guess what? The wedding dress I made is finished, and the wedding is tomorrow! I’ll be able to take lots of pretty pictures to show you the result! I can’t wait to show you!
