Wedding Dress Alteration: Fixing Sleeves and Gathered Collar
I've been altering a dress at work and thought I'd let you see what I did. I'm very happy with the result. This is the gorgeous wedding dress that the customer ordered.
When she got the dress, it wasn't the same dress she tried. I didn't take a before picture, but I sort of drew a picture for you. The sleeves were HUGE 80's-like sleeves, there was no waist definition, and the collar was twice as tall but laid down like a clown collar.
I did a lot of alterations, and this is how it turned out. I shortened it and took in the sides.
I redid the sleeves so that they were flat with some pleating at the hem.
I made a sweetheart neckline and redid the collar.
The collar was one layer so using the fabric from the hem, I made a facing for the collar. The facing has a straight standing collar piece to make the collar stand up. See the rectangle on the left?
You can't see anything on the outside, but it will always stand up. Doesn't it look great?
I also added pearl buttons up the back.
Then I made a bustle for the back.
It was a fun project, and I'm glad I got to work on it. My the bride and I are so happy with the result. She'll be such a gorgeous bride!
I'm also very grateful for husbands who proofread blogs after they are published. Thanks sweetie!
