Thrift Find: Almost Finished Dress

I got a $3 bag of fabric for this cute turquoise plaid. I thought I could make something great for the coming baby boy. When I got home and opened it up, I found it was a dress almost finished. It had some pattern pieces and lace on the collar.

At first I thought I wouldn't be able to fit in the dress because I'm 24 weeks along, but I tried it on. It's surprisingly big. If I keep it as a dress, I will definitely have to take it in and move in the sleeves. I do like the A-shape though. I was amazed at how well it was put together. It's even underlined.
Now the question I have for you today is, do I keep it as a dress making it more fitting? Or just use it for the fabric?
If I do keep it as a dress, do I add a collar? A lace collar?
Or leave it a basic neckline? I think I would change it to a more open, swoop neckline or maybe a v-neck.
Any thoughts or tips? I don't know what to do about it, and I need some help!

  1. I think a v-neck line with some lace would be adorable. Either that or a more open square neck. Right now it's a little stuffy looking and something like you mentioned would definitely open it up!

You're lucky you found some cheap fabric, it's so hard for me to find nice looking stuff in a thrift store.

  2. different neckline for sure. I'm not the best person to see something for what it could be...but it could work!

  3. Way cute! What a cool thing to find at the thrift store. Maybe I'll give that a try if I find some cute fabric.

  4. No collar. Slash or V neck would be way cuter. Maybe even a band or tie of complementing fabric. But other than that, it looks cute and comfortable for being pregnant. Which could work for this time, and then make something else out of it. I don't think I have worn the same dress in each pregnancy. Styles and tastes change.
    Looks cute!

  5. i actually have a vintage pattern im making that looks like this. I say keep it as a dress, it would be a cute maternity one, especially with a belt to accent your growing belly. and im a fan of collars. I pick no lace peterpan style...

  6. I agree...different neckline and a belt...I like the white trim, but maybe at the waist instead? Love the fabric. :)

  7. I say make the dress with more of a scoop neck. No collar necessary. And you can always save the lace for later. I'm glad I won't be the only pregnant lady at the clothes swap saturday, although you are much more stylish than me.

  8. It's so cute from what i can tell. I love the collar!! Thanks for linking up to thriftaholics weekly, hope to see you there this week also :)
