Tutorial: Shorten a Sweater

I have a cute, white sweater that is way too long.
Before
I wanted to shorten it to here.
See the ribbing at the bottom? I want to keep that for my new hem. Measure from hem to finished length, and cut that amount in half. Fold the sweater up on that amount and pin.
Sew with a zigzag stitch about 1/4" from the top of the ribbing then trim. I serged mine.
Sew the seam allowance up. To do this, make sure the seam allowance is to the left.
Then sew 1/8" from the ribbing always making sure the seam allowance is to the left.
It'll look a little wavy when you're done, so iron it flat.
 You're done!
It's a nice change for a good cardigan.
 Now it's the perfect length.
I got out of my after-work pajamas to show you this refashion. You should be proud.

  1. Adorable! I found your blog a while ago and I'm so impressed with all of your projects. If I could get my sewing machine to behave, I'd try a lot of them for myself. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. I have this problem too....I'm so nervous to change my clothes, though, because I always make some tiny ditzy mistake that can't be fixed. lol
