My sister-in-law gave me this great decor board, but it doesn't match anything in my house. Instead of letting it sit in storage, I changed it a bit.
I took an 8x10 photo of my husband and I that I edited in Picnik. We had some of our engagement pictures taken while riding a yellow tandem bike. I love the idea of us "riding" through life together, so I added a quote "Joy is being married to your best friend." I know that's not the original quote, but I like it this way.
I painted the edges of the board yellow. It took a couple of coats.
Then I trimmed the picture and glued it down. I even used my rolling pin to flatten it out. Don't worry, no glue got on the rolling pin.
I added a coat of Mod Podge painting in one direction. (I'm really right handed, but I'm terrible and holding a camera steady with my left hand.)
After letting it dry, I added a coat of Mod Podge painting in a different direction with a different brush.
You can't see the texture when you look at it straight on, but you can when there's a glare. I did think there would be more texture, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
I have seen something like this done on another blog, but I can't remember where or when it was. I don't even know if this is what she did. I just remember she painted Mod Podge over her photo.
I'm going to hang it up in the kitchen when I get some more time. It'll hang next to the chalkboard and lemony decor.
